In this case, the MOV file is the acquisition format, and the AVI file is the distribution format. When the edited video is complete, it will be converted to a distribution format, which is typically a fraction of the original file size, as all of the extra information gets thrown away, and only what is directly visible remains. Color can be adjusted easier, shadows can be recovered, etc. Acquisition formats will do this in order to give greater range when post processing the file. One reason that files are larger when being captured is to retain the extra detail that the camera sees. Why is the original MOV file so large? Is there any setting in the camera tha would lower the file size?ĭo you think it is wise to run the original MOV file through the AVC to downsize the file? I viewed both video on my laptop with screen resolution of 1366x768 and couldn't really tell the difference of the two file. I used Any Video Converter (a freeby program) to convert it to AVI format, in Normal quality and 1280x720 dimension 25 fps. For practice, I taped a session of 20 minutes yesterday at 1080p 30 fps.
